Lights on After School

On Tuesday October 18th, our After-School Program will be participating in the annual Lights On Afterschool, a nationwide celebration of afterschool programs.  We will be one of more than 8,000 sites across the nation sending the message that afterschool is key to children’s success, and that we must keep the lights on and doors open after school.  This year we are coordinating with all 27 FCPS middle schools to host one centralized event.  Parents, media, community partners, school officials and other elected officials have been invited to help us rally support for safe, stimulating afterschool programs. Please join us Tuesday October 18th at Lanier Middle School from 7:00-8:30 pm.

Longfellow Middle and McLean High School Choral Department are excited to announce a joint choral program available every Monday afternoon from 2:45-4:15.  Longfellow students will work with the Choral Director and choral students at McLean High School.  Ms. Martin has been the director at McLean for twenty years, holds a Masters in conducting, and is a soprano soloist in the DC area.  Students will learn a variety of types and techniques in vocal music and have the opportunity to perform in four concerts with the high school choral department.  Students will also perform in events at Longfellow throughout the year, in preparation for a school based choral program in the following year.  We are working on having a bus to take students  from Longfellow every Monday at the conclusion of the school day and then the students can be picked up from McLean at 4:30pm.
